Normandy Events in 2019
There’s a huge range of festivals happening throughout Normandy in 2019. In June it’s the major 75th anniversary commemorations with a full programme of parades, firework displays and military enactments. You’ll also find the Bayeux Medieval Festival and Jazz Sous les Pommiers in July.
What to Do in Normandy
Take in the Bayeux Cathedral during its light show. It’s one of the main attractions of the region, but don’t miss the medieval castles and museums in this area too.
Cider in Normandy
If you’re visiting this area, don’t forget to try a glass of cider. This is one of the main exports from Normandy and has been made since the 11th century.
Antique French Calvados Jar
This enchanting glazed stoneware jar was crafted in a small village in Normandy. It has beautiful clean country design lines and plenty of personality.
What’s more, it was used to store and age calvados, an apple brandy that is produced in this region of France.
The glazed exterior is a classic gres color and has the incised initials G M on the front and 3 on the handle. It has a lovely patina with lots of glaze variations.
Jugs with thumbing around the footrim were common in the Middle Ages and have long been thought to counteract the’sagging’ bottoms found on some medieval jugs which can roll over when filled.
