The elongated shaped jug has been heavily polished to highlight its intricately detailed exterior and is in excellent condition for its age. The jug has a scalloped collar that attaches to the neck, as well as a molded lid with a riveted handle that keeps its contents from spilling out.

Saintonge jug from Cardiff and Castell-y-Bere

The vase-like jug, depicting birds, masks and heraldic shields, was probably produced during the period of English occupation of Castell-y-Bere and is a fine example of the wares manufactured at Saintonge potteries throughout Wales. The potters’ skill can be seen in their ability to make vessels with delicate decoration, often only 2.4mm thick.

P-47 fighter group tactics in Normandy were vividly depicted in the rousing 1948 Warner Brothers film, Fighter Squadron. This movie was a big hit with the general public, and it is still considered one of the best war films ever made.
